Five Families from the Listowel Mennonite Church planted a new Church in Brussels thirty five years ago. John and Mary Baan, Elwin and Linda Garland, Ross and Anne Hemingway, Howard and Alice Martin, and Lorne and Marion Wideman were the founding families of Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. Other families joined them and the first service was held in February 1981 in the village library. Brian Laverty, pastor of the Listowel congregation provided leadership in the beginning until Doug Zehr was hired as pastor for the Brussels group.

The rapidly growing group soon outgrew the rented facilities and the Matheson house and property were purchased and became the meeting house for BMF's services and activities. In June of 1981 the first service was held in in this building. Three years later a chapel was added to the west side, thanks to much volunteer labour. A gymnasium/fellowship hall, a new kitchen and pastor's office were added in 1987.

Other necessary renovations had taken place over the time; for example, washrooms were installed, a new stairway going upstairs to the Sunday school classrooms was built, and an old porch was transformed into a small meeting room and office.

BMF has worked with other Brussels churches on a variety of projects. Kid’s Corner (summer Christian camp) is held one week each summer. Services for Seniors are held at the local Nursing/Retirement Home, Huron Lea. Soup n' More is held at the Presbyterian Church. A joint outdoor service for Brussels Churches is held annually. A joint choir for a Christmas service has become a tradition and recently the Ministerial has added a Spring Concert. Youth for Christ held at BMF is an active project for Community Youth.

Our current Pastor is Ken Gazley and is assisted by his wife Mieke. God's faithfulness has been a comfort to the congregation for the last thirty-five years and we trust His guidance for the years to come.
